What are crystals?
Crystals grow on and within the Earth. When minerals, gasses,
pressure and temperature reach certain levels, crystals form.
Fluctuation in any of these factors results in the many varieties of
crystal formation. Some of the common minerals we find in crystals,
as well as within our bodies, are silica, salts, calcium, magnesium
and iron. When these minerals “crystallize” in nature they reproduce
their molecular structure in an uninhibited way. This process creates
the beautiful shapes we admire and look for when collecting pieces.
Other minerals form a more vein-like crystalline structure. These
pieces are found in the earth where there are veins of the crystal
leading from within other rock.
What are the Chakras and what do they have to do with
crystals?
Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning “wheel” or vortex and that is just
what they are. The human form has over 200 chakras, located all
over the body. We can think of them as intersections of primary or
secondary energy channels. Energy channels being the Meridians,
the veins and arteries, the nervous system, the lymph system, etc.
Where ever these systems intersect there is a vortex of energy.
There are seven (or eight again depending on what tradition you
follow) primary chakras these are the largest and most influential on
the body’s energy system as a whole. These seven chakras are
based along the spine and correspond to major organs within the
body. Starting at the base of the spine and moving through the body
to the top of the head the chakras are as follows; root, sacrel, solar
plexus, heart, throat, brow and crown.
